Professional Career: Twenty-two years ago in April of 1986 I began my golf career in Lawrence, KS at Lawrence Country Club. My wife and I were married in August of that summer and soon made our way to Phoenix, AZ after I accepted an assistant position at Sun City Country Club. I was there for a short time before making my way to the east side of the valley to start working for Marriott’s Camelback Inn and their golf course as a assistant golf professional in September of 1987. I was there for 4 years before leaving in July of 1991 after accepting the Head Golf Professional position with Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego. From there I moved to take the Head Golf Professional position at the SCGA Members’ Club in Murrieta, CA. in 1995. After commuting from the Carmel Mountain Ranch area for a year I moved my family to the Temecula area where we have resided since. I left the SCGA after taking the position of Head Golf Professional at Bear Creek Golf Club. I was there for 5 years before leaving to pursue a career outside of golf. Although my new career didn’t take off as expected, I found that golf was certainly in my blood and after a summer off acquired the Head Professional position at Glendora Country Club in October of 2004. I spent the next 3 1/2 years with the club and making the drive from Temecula to the Glendora area. I was contacted in late 2007 about the Journey at Pechanga position and was chosen as the new Head Golf Professional in March of 2008.
Tips and Play of the Course
Hitting the Low shot into the wind Something we all as golfers don’t appreciate is a day out on the golf course with windy conditions. Here at Journey at Pechanga we certainly have these conditions and hopefully these swing tips will help you with these windy times. Therefore I’d like to help each of you out with a few key things that will help produce your desired shot.
Hitting the golf ball and keeping it low below the wind requires a couple of things that you must do.
- Position ball placement further back in your stance. This will help.
- Shallow out your swing so that you do not reach impact to steep
- On your downswing your hands, arms and body are forward and in front of the ball through impact. Yes, your head will be in front of the ball at impact.
- At impact make sure that your club hits the ball behind and not on top
- Provide enough release in your hands and arms early enough to make sure your club at impact is square. Experiment with this on the practice tee.
- Provide yourself with a good solid follow through with your arms driving across your chest area.
- Your follow through is somewhat abbreviated with more of a hold on position.
- Don’t swing hard or fast. Swing under control. This shall produce a solid balance swing that will hopefully give you your desired shot and give you your desired distance
- Start practicing this as if your hitting low little chip shots and then graduate up through medium shots and full shots.
- Practice and experiment.
